LUNA: Fashion Provisions for the Modern Witch

Tasked with creating a line of clothing based on a subculture, I chose to lean into the gothic/witchy aesthetic and create garments with dark, whimsical elements. These designs called back to historical garments and 1980s gothic fashion while being modern enough for a current market.

Process

  • Researching the market and sourcing inspiration images, I created the color palette and textile range seen below.

  • To fully flesh out the idea, I sketched over 50 designs inspired by my theme. I selected elements that stood out and refined the sketches to select my final 4 designs.

  • Using Adobe Illustrator, I created the custom star and moon pattern seen below.

  • Finally, I illustrated my designs using marker, pen, and pencil. This was one of my first fashion illustrations, and I practiced anatomy and fabric illustration to create a faithful depiction.

Outcome

As one of my first design projects, I was thrilled to create a start-to-finish collection, with my own work being showcased from research to print design and illustration. Of course there is still great room for improvement, but I appreciate LUNA for pushing me out of my comfort zone to explore new areas and skillsets that I will continue to use future designs.
